Spink Shreves Galleries Sale - 106

The William H. Gross Collection of Important Postage Stamps and Postal History of the British Empire - October 3, 2008

On Friday, October 3, 2008 another impressive collection formed by William H. Gross - his collection of Important Postage Stamps and Postal History of the British Empire - will be sold at unreserved public auction in New York City. And, once again, both Sue and Bill Gross demonstrate their remarkable generosity by donating the entire sales proceeds to an important and worthwhile charity - the Millennium Villages Project at the Earth Institute.

The Gross Collection of the British Empire is relatively small (138 lots), but a remarkable assemblage of highly desirable and seldom seen rarities of the British Empire. There is no question this will be one of the most anticipated auctions of the new fall season. Some of the areas strongly represented in the auction are British America and British Europe, in addition to important offerings of classic rarities from Cape of Good Hope and Mauritius.

As with all Spink Shreves auctions, bidders may participate in the auction - live on the Internet - during the sale. Please see our website www.SpinkShreves.com for details of this exciting bidding option

The Gross Collection of British Empire rarities will be appropriately honored and preserved in a special hardbound all-color auction catalog. It has been similarly designed much like his catalogs for the now famous sales of his magnificent Great Britain collection (which last year realized the highest amount for any single stamp auction ever conducted) and his Scandinavia collection this past May. These and any future Gross Collection sales catalogs will certainly form an incomparable “set” for any philatelic library.

Catalogs for the William H. Gross Collection of Important Postage Stamps and Postal History of the British Empire are now available for $40.00 each ($50.00 to non-U.S. addresses). Orders may be placed online using a credit card at www.SpinkShreves.com or by calling 800-556-7826 or 972-788-2100.
