The difficultly of the value is underscored by the fact that this stamp, which is graded XF-Superb 95 Jumbo, is the highest grade yet awarded to any never hinged Scott #305.Accompanied by a 2008 PSE certificate (XF-Superb 95 Jumbo; SMQ $1,850.00 as 95 and $6,500.00 as 98); the highest grade assigned to any never hinged example, being one of only two to be so graded. Every physical attribute of this stunning example could not be improved upon. It is the ultimate example of why grading of stamps was created - to single out stamps that are clearly out of the ordinary. This stamp has been awarded the pinnacle grade for any stamp - Gem 100 Jumbo and is, of course, the only copy to be so graded. In fact, there are only three stamps in the entire 1902-08 Bureau issue series to have been awarded Gem 100 Jumbo status according to the most recent PSE Population Report: a never hinged Scott #303, a used Scott #306 and this phenomenal stamp.Accompanied by a 1990 PF certificate and a 2004 PSE certificate (Gem 100 Jumbo; $4,050.00 as 98, which is the highest grade they price and will prove to be entirely irrelevant to this stamp's final auction realization); ex-Morris. The placement of the impressions on the plates were always tightly spaced, allowing little room for sizable margins. It is only in rare cases of the aberrant placement of the perforating pins that created the very few existing copies that possess the perfection of centering and impressive width of the margins found on this amazing stamp. However, as true aficionados of graded U.S. stamps know, there are some stamps, or series of stamps, that are exponentially more challenging to find in this ultimate of all grades than others.
