The rare 'RIEL
REBELLION' ESSAY in DARK RED on gummed thick wove paper, clear to large margins with small thin at top, otherwise fine and very rare, with only a dozen or so genuine examples recorded in any shade. This stamp essay was purportedly produced from a
wood-cut die in red, green and black during the North-West or Second Riel Rebellion in 1885 for possible use by the Metis Provisional Government who had also adopted their own flag and published a newspaper. Ex - Brigham. (Image)
