S.G. #2/320 |
S.G. #2/320, D1-20, Very comprehensive collection of over 300 stamps
to 1964 on Lighthouse hingeless pages (with spaces for specialized material
such as shade varieties), the collection begins with sixteen 1860-1882 1/2p
stamps (including three unwatermarked), with a variety of shades, from 1885
on the collection appears complete less of course the rare 1919 10/- St.
Paul, and there are several varieties including two 1902 "Pnney" errors and
later shades, the early 1/2p stamps are in slightly mixed quality as always
including some without gum, although this group appears above the norm, the
later issues are o.g. and mainly fine-very fine (Scott #1/302, J1-20). |

S.G. #40 |
S.G. #40, 1859 2p Deep blue on bluish, Sherwin
printing, the so-called "Large Fillet Head", an enormously rare unused
example of this important classic stamp, being one of just four known
unused examples (plus there is one pair formerly in the Caspary
collection), strikingly intense color and a highly detailed impression,
margins range from just barely cutting at bottom left to mostly quite
ample, there is a diagonal corner crease at bottom left which just slightly
cracked the surface in a couple of places, however it has been expertly
restored preserving this stamp's fine appearance; with only four unused
examples in existence it could be literally decades before another copy
becomes available for sale; signed Bartels and Pfenninger, as well as being
accompanied by a 1995 Peter Holcombe certificate (Scott #15;
$100,000.00). (Image) |

normal price; 1989 Brandon certificate (Scott #17 var.; $1,500.00+). (Image) |
