Catalog at StampAuctionNetwork Online Images Available Public Auction US Material Worldwide Material Postal History Found in SAN Search Engine Schlegel - Public Auction - April 4-5, 2014 The 14th SCHLEGEL auction (April, 4-5 2014) once again offers a rich variety of nearly all collecting areas . For those who love specialties we have done it again. “Rare and of high quality“ applies to all four of our main highlights. On the first pages of our collection section (Lots 300-457) you find the rare Baden and Overseas' reference collections from the provenience of the late stamp expert Georg Richter (1874-1960) which had been untouched since his death. Both collections are captivating due to - compared to other reference collections - the large number of originals.

The high-quality estate "Disinfected mail 1831-1865" (Lots 2143-2241) had been family-owned for decades. Exquisite covers, rarities and previously unknown items (e.g. Bosnia, Macedonia, Serbia, Romania, Austria, Hungary and Ottoman Empire) will be offered for the first time to the public.Top of the pile in our 14th auction must be a former exhibition collection (Lots 1-275): Our special catalogue "LUXEMBURG 1852-1880" covers the issues of the classic period of the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg and features rare multiples, unique mixed frankings, specialties and desirable mint stamps. This collection will be offered in 275 single lots. Our single lot section is equally impressive and is led by the famous "Yellow Mercury" (newspaper stamp). This item (Lot 3004) originates from the famous stamp collector Philipp de Ferrari who assumedly once owned the most complete worldwide collection that ever existed. The stamp at hand is among the rarest in the world. An exceptional and singular offer!

Throw in many more outstanding stamps, covers and even coins from all over the world and we are confident that you will find something of interest. We look forward to seeing you at our sale (Pre-Sale Viewing in our premises at Kurfurstendamm 200, daily from March 24th - April, 3rd 2014 from 10 am - 6 pm). Best of luck with your bidding! Catalog at StampAuctionNetwork Online Images Available Public Auction with LIVE Internet Bidding US Material Worldwide Material Postal History Found in SAN Search Engine Sparks Auctions - Sparks Auction #14 - April 8-10, 2014 Collectors of all levels will find something of interest in this sale. This auction introduces to the stamp collecting community a handful of items not previously known as well as a great many rarities up to and including traditional world-class expensive classics. Every auction our consignors trust us to sell an increasing number of their valuable items. In this auction, a total of 105 consignors have laid out a veritable “candy store” of temptation.

A fair number of the items to be offered have been in collections for decades and sometimes are offered for the first time from a correspondence not previously cherished by a stamp collector. The task of viewing these lots will certainly be challenging for our customers who try to view everything.

In Canada we start with one of the rarest Canadian stamps, an unused number one, and it does not go downhill from there. A very fine and never hinged half-penny stamp did not even make it to the front cover of our catalogue. Top quality continues from the earliest to the latest in Canada. Then, as can be seen on the front cover, B.N.A. has some eye-popping rarities.

Our popular Lots and Collections section has fewer lots than previously but the overall variety and value are comparable to previous auctions. Those who view will find that the median quality of the lots as well as the individual stamps has improved from previous auctions.

We always like mentioning literature and this auction offers hundreds of works not seen in prior auctions. A goodly number of these have been combined in carton lots and will prove interesting to collectors looking for new interests (they may also prove to be a bargain).

Our Worldwide section offers more lots than usual, as well as some strong USA. This and our British Commonwealth (check out the Rhodesia) round out a strong and diverse auction. LIVE Internet Bidding at StampAuctionNetwork.

Safra holding, which he acquired in a 2 February, 1994 Christie's auction of the "Westport" collection for $173,000.00, is the finest of the mere five mint never hinged copies of the 24c Jenny with inverted center recorded, the most famous and widely recognized stamp in philately. It has previously graced the collections of Colonel Edward H.R. Green, Frederick H. Douglas of Rumson, N.J., who sold it through John A. Fox at auction on 30 July, 1959 for $6,100.00 to Raymond H. Weill acting as agent for Dr. J.A. Graves. It was next offered publicly at the 1982 Siegel Rarities of the world auction, and sold again to Weill acting as agent for "Westport." It realized $198,000.00 a then record price for a single United States stamp. The most recent appearance of a mint n.h. copy was the Robert A. Siegel sale of the Beverly Hills Collection in October, 2013. That copy, which was graded VF 80 by both the P.F. and P.S.E. hammered for $500,000.00. LIVE Internet Bidding at StampAuctionNetwork.

We hope you enjoy reading it. With only 1304 lots, this auction is a little smaller than normal and our 9:30am starting time will ensure that our room bidders can get home before the ‘end of football’ rush starts.

This auction has been split into 3 sessions. The morning session is completely taken up with 349 lots of Rest of World plus 278 lots of Australian Colonies. There are many good British Commonwealth lots including quite a range of more difficult variety and Specimen lots.

The Australian Colonies section has a wide range of items including many fine postmark lots with a good group of NSW numerals and a very fine range of difficult to assemble Victorian Butterfly and Barred Oval cancels. Also in Victoria there is a small selection of very difficult Specimens and CTOs. There is a good range of Postal History items from all colonies with the Victorian section being particularly fine as it includes separate covers with the Registered stamp or the Too Late stamp along with a range of other registered covers from the 1850s and early 1860s.

In the early afternoon session, beginning at 1:00pm, we will be offering over 440 lots of Roos and Georgian Heads. There is a good selection of Roos including varieties, Specimens and CTOs. The Georgian Heads section is also strong with a number cracked electros in both the 1½d red and 2d orange. There are two rare 5d rough papers on separate covers. The Penny Red specialist will be pleased to see a complete pane VII and there is a complete sheet of 3d overprinted ‘OS’ near the end of this section.

The final session, will begin at 3:00pm and this has the balance of Australia and the Australian Territories and ex-Territories. One of the highlights of the KGVI issues is a 10/- Arms Specimen with the extremely difficult ‘IM joined’ flaw. In the QEII decimal period there is an extraordinary range of covers with rare and unusual usages. This is a must for postal historians. Collectors of modern Postal Stationery will be pleased to see a small group of prominent printing errors. New Guinea and Australian Roo collectors will be pleased to see a complete forme of the 1st Wmk 1/- Roo and later in this last session is our front cover item, a complete sheet of the £1 grey Bulolo Airmail. Catalog at StampAuctionNetwork Online Images Available Mail Sale US Material Worldwide Material Postal History First Day Covers Found in SAN Search Engine Droege / Tour de Cure - Tour de Cure Auction to Benefit the American Diabetes Assoc. - April 1, 2014 This sale contains lots donated by StampAuctionNetwork Auction firms and bidders. You will find lots from Siegel, Modern Stamps, Apfelbaum, Paradise Valley, Sam Houston, Vance Auctions, The Stamp Center and an autographed copy of Bill Gross's book, The "William H. Gross Collection - United States Classics, 1847–1869", plus a number of lots donated by our StampAuctionNetwork members.

The sale starts with some US classics including many high values, a few graded 20th century stamps, Inauguration covers, a cover carried on the Challenger, Elvis sheets, a PNC collection on cover, many accumulations of hard to get US commems on cover, an accumulation of Washing Bicentennial FDC entires, and Duck Stamps. In worldwide we have a number of singles, sets, and a large number of collection lots starting at $5 each. As is our custom, we also included 3 lots of Exportas on cover made up especially for this auction for that that want an introduction to the Mexico Exporta issue. Some of the collection lots are quite heavy and not recommended to be shipped outside the continental United States. The heavy lots are noted as such.

But the best part of this sale, is that it is for The American Diabetes Tour de Cure. Since most of our consignors donated this material with NO Tax basis, when you buy most of these lots, you will get a charitable contribution. I am not making this up. Some lots will show a donation value, and for those lots your charitable contribution will be only the amount you pay over the "tax donation value". But those are the exceptions. Where else can you buy stamps and get a charitable contribution? If you win lots, payment will be made directly to the ADA using my American Diabetes Tour de Cure Donation page. Click this link to see how I am doing or to give a donation. Dynamic Internet Bidding at StampAuctionNetwork.

Catalog at StampAuctionNetwork Online Images Available Public Auction with LIVE Internet Bidding Mail Sale US Material Worldwide Material Found in SAN Search Engine Earl P.L. Apfelbaum Inc. - Buy It Now #R257 - Italy - April 16, 2014 ITALY & AREA - One of the most interesting and specialized areas of philately is the Italian Area. Italian philately comprises several main areas of interest - Italian States, Italy proper, Italian Offices and Colonies and philatelic areas traditionally allied with Italy, such as San Marino and the Vatican. There are tens of thousands of Italian Area stamps to collect and specialists count over 150,000 varieties of Italian Area stamps. Rarities exist, but the vast majority of Italian Area stamps are affordable and fun to collect. There is no other area of our hobby that offers so much breadth and depth at such an affordable price.

Italian States were among the first stamps produced by any postal agency in the world, beginning in the 1850’s. Before the Italian Federation under Garibaldi united Italy into one country, Italy was made up of many independent nations that controlled their own borders, maintained armies and issued postage stamps. Today, the classic stamps of Modena, Parma, Sardinia, Tuscany, the Papal States and others are avidly sought out by collectors. Many are expensive. But many too, despite being over 150 years old, are affordable for all collectors. The stamps of the Italian States were superseded in 1863 by the stamps of Italy proper.

The country of Italy has issued several thousand stamps and they are divided by collectors into several main areas. Most collectors collect either mint or used stamps. The early issues of Italy are very affordable, as are many of the Twentieth Century issues. Some of the commemorative issues of the Twentieth Century (especially the airmails) are far rarer used than mint. There are a few rarities, but overall the stamps of Italy are attractive and collectible.

The Colonies and Offices of Italy are very interesting. Like most other Nineteenth Century European powers, Italy had imperialist aspirations. Italy maintained post offices in numerous cities in the Turkish Empire and in China and these are some of the most sought after issues in all philately. Italy had colonies as well, especially in Libya and Somalia and like any good imperial power, Italy broke these colonial entities into numerous stamp issuing components, such as Oltra Guiba, Cyrenaica and Tripolitania. Italy fought constantly with the Austro Hungarian Empire throughout the Nineteenth and early Twentieth Centuries, each country occupying, ceding and then reoccupying areas, such as Fiume and Dalmatia, that no longer have postal issues of their own. These areas are collected under Italian philately and are very interesting.

Lastly, two traditionally independent countries are also collected by Italian philatelists - San Marino and the Vatican. San Marino, totally encompassed by Italy, is one of the world’s oldest and smallest republics, being established in 301 AD. Its postage stamps have always been among the world’s most popular. And Vatican City, occupying a portion of Rome nearly continuously for over 1900 years, has only issued postage stamps as the Vatican since 1929. All told, Italian Area philately has as much to offer as any area of our hobby and it has been one of the most popular branches of philately for over 100 years. Buy it Now at StampAuctionNetwork.
