Catalog at StampAuctionNetwork Online Images Available Public Auction with LIVE Internet Bidding US Material Worldwide Material Postal History Found in SAN Search Engine Sparks Auctions - Sparks Auction #15 - August 19-21, 2014 We are excited about the future! Right after this auction we begin our move to a new location (see our site for more details). Parking for our customers, a modern office building and a dedicated auction room hold promise for continuing an upward trend of busier and more valuable sales.

A few weeks later we will open an office in Western Canada. Victoria, BC has a strong and vibrant philatelic community and we want to contribute to that activity.

We continue to add expertise and experience to our auction team. As collectors and exhibitors we have won Gold Medals. Most of us have contributed locally and nationally to organized philately as Editors, Presidents, or Chairmen of Societies, Clubs and Stamp Shows. Several are accredited and respected philatelic Judges. We welcome and encourage new talent.

We now have the capability to hold three auctions annually on a regular schedule as well as the flexibility to offer one-owner or other specialized auctions. In future our auctions will be scheduled for winter, spring, and late fall. This will permit us to impose and adhere to firmer consignment deadlines.

Our daily contacts with fellow collectors give us important feedback. What we hear and experience is the phenomenon of lapsed collectors returning to their hobby, while continuing collectors add new interests.

Sparks continues to mark new milestones with more than 100 consignors to a single auction. Our last auction resulted in 309 successful buyers. Equally importantly, we had a much higher number of unsuccessful bidders who help our realizations with underbids. Our internet bidders have increased significantly, resulting in stronger realizations. We continue to be one of a small minority of firms which does not own the material offered. We also continue our policy of not starting the bidding at artificial “opening” bids.

Keen and observant collectors will note in this auction several dozen lots which were offered in our last sale. A few of these are re-offered because two large buyers from Sale 14 did not pay and did not return phone calls or emails. As disappointing as this was, we like to show confidence and trust in our bidders and are proud to say that such situations are a rarity.

This introduction is supposed to extol the virtues of the gems and rarities being offered. Because of our other news outlined above, the stamps will have to shout out their glories themselves. And they do. LIVE Internet Bidding at StampAuctionNetwork.

Also in the Decimal is 1989-1990 Cycling 37c UNISSUED self-adhesive stamp printed as an essay for Australia's 1st "peel & stick" but using wrong denomination & never issued due to rate increase. The original artwork for the Cycling stamp was for a 37c denomination but this was changed to 41c for the issue of the normal perf stamps, & it appears that when the 1st self-adhesive stamps were made the printer by mistake referred to the 37c artwork instead of the 41c perf stamps & so the self-adhesives were done as 37c in error! Superb MUH on original backing paper. ACSC 1379E(1)(we sold a similar example in our auction 228 for $6000+).Only around 6 examples known in private hands as the rest of the roll went back to Australia Post & is locked up in their archive collection. An absolutely fantastic stamp for collectors that cannot afford $100,000 for a normal (previous such proof we had sold for $10,500 in our auction 300). Certificate can be obtained on request.(LOT 1860).

In the Pacific Region is the Papua 1930s-52 "STAMP DUTY / £100 £100" overprint on Lakatoi 2/6 maroon & pink, with "31/3/52" m/s cancel on original page "Statement of Nominal Capital" (£200,000) of the Companies Ordinance document for registration of Gibbes Sepik Airways Ltd. Bft 18. Great rarity with only several recorded, which actually makes it rarer than any of the overprint errors or paper varieties of the postage stamps of Papua. This is the highest denomination revenue stamp of Papua and as such of major importance for the specialist. 2014 Ceremuga AIEP photo-cert. (Lot 3379). Numerous other European rarities as well.
