Catalog at StampAuctionNetwork Online Images Available Public Auction Literature US Material Worldwide Material Postal History First Day Covers Found in SAN Search Engine Christoph Gärtner Philatelic - Public Worldwide Auction - February 10-27, 2016 The German Auction House Christoph Gaertner starts the new year with an incomparable diverse offer in total 10 catalogues. Approximately 38,000 lots from 1.400 consignors from all over the world.

As a known Asia Specialist the Auction House Gaertner offers 3,200 single lots "ASIA" containing many highlights like one of the biggest rarities of the British Commonwealth and of Asian postal history: the only complete cover from Labuan (Malaysia) with a combined franking of stamps from India (1856/64 4 a black, 3x) and Hong Kong (1862/63 8 c. yellow-buff single and pair).

Overseas, Europe and Thematics comprise approx. 10,000 single lots from very fine classic stamps to modern varieties and specialties. Thematic Philately begins with a top-class range of Antarctic documents. A particularly rare example is the correct use of the "Why Not" - Label (POLE SUD - EXPEDITION CHARCOT/POURQUOI PAS?) on an expedition post card from 1980. Also well represented are the motives Olympic Games (Deutsches Reich Olympic Games 1936 block 5U mint and block 6 with SST), medicine and scouts.

From the Overseas section particularly Mauritius stands out. Among the most notable pieces is a letter posted 1864 in Port Louis / Mauritius for the French colony Saint Pierre et Miquelon. A very early copy of the POST PAID from 1848 - similarly rare as the famous POST OFFICE ("Blue Mauritius") - is on auction.

The cover picture of the Europe catalogue shows a well-known pigeon from Basel with plate flaw on a 1845 stock exchange report to Hensler & Co in Basel. One of the most well-known Norway rarities, a diagonal bisect of a blue 4 Skilling on a local letter front of Christiana is only known in two copies. A Tête-Bêche pair in a strip of four with full margins of the 20 c Ceres is a uniquely beautiful piece from the classic period of France.

The Germany catalogue lists more than 5,000 single lots with many notable pieces and rarities. A postal-historic eye candy is a letter from the Crimean War, send from Rothenfels (Bayern) with an unique 20 Kreuzer three color franking consisting of 7 stamps. Units like a full margins block of four of the 1857 Prussian 3 Sgr yellow (MiNo 8, Lot 13747, Start price 4,000) or the Württemberg Mi No 21 (1 Kreuzer black brown) in a block of four with a plate flaw or a block of four of the 18 Kreuzer yellow orange with full original gum are among the offers.

More than 10,000 lots are presented in the collection catalogues. The thematic collection "75th ANNIVERSARY OF THE UNIVERSAL POSTAL UNION" has an enormous number of rare and special items. "THE BIRD WATCHER'S DREAM COLLECTION", which holds in over 55 albums 18,000 stamps and blocks which describe more than 3,300 different species of wild birds. A Vietnam Collection shines with more than 250 artist drafts and proofs.

Coins and Medals will be auctioned in advance on February 10th followed by bank notes on February 11th and 12th. At the bank notes there are many rarities like e.g. a Polish 1,000 Zl. note from 1794 in extraordinary good quality. Dynamic Internet Bidding at StampAuctionNetwork.

Catalog at StampAuctionNetwork Online Images Available Public Auction US Material Worldwide Material Postal History Found in SAN Search Engine Eastern Auctions Ltd. - Public Auction - February 19-20, 2016 This auction consists of over 1,100 lots - day one (February 19) begins with the very comprehensive used 1840-1910 British Commonwealth collection formed by Hal Woodworth Pattison. Carefully assembled over many years with a keen eye on Gibbons listed shades & printings. The general Worldwide section (Lot 250-553) features an extensive collection of Worldwide First Issue stamps, with better items lotted individually, along with a few collection balances. Australia - a highlight of this section, showcases Kangaroo issues with choice key values, monogram multiples and rare varieties. Also noteworthy are old-time collections of Great Britain & Finland from the estate of Andrew Nimmo. Closing this section are modern mint country collections (Lot 491-553), for the most part bought as new issues over a span of approximately 35 years.

Day two of the auction starts with the impressive Western Canada postal history collections from the estate of Dr. Don Thompson, which begins with rarities of the First and Second Riel Rebellion emanating from his award winning exhibit. This concise and historically significant section is followed by his Territorial postal history collections. Of particular note are the outstanding Red River Settlement, Northwest Territories "NWT" and District of Keewatin "KEE" postmarked covers, without any doubt among the very best ever assembled. Seasoned collectors will certainly appreciate the fact that many of these covers rarely surface on the marketplace.

British North America & Canada have excellent selections of early mint and used classic issues along rare proofs; a few we do not recall offering before. Strong areas represented are Pence, Admirals, Airmails, Varieties with early re-entries, modern errors; a nice collection of Postal Stationery cards with elusive postal rates, frankings and markings. The selection of large lots and collections is unusually strong (and bulky) presenting classic stamps to postal history - we firmly recommend allowing plenty of time to view these lots as they will offer great potential to acquire useful material for your collection.
